Donna Jean Petersen Pack, 89, of Orem, Utah, passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2018. She lived an abundant and joyous life to the very end.
The third of seven children, she was born July 3, 1928, in Brigham City, Utah, to Royes John Petersen and Elva Leone Bingham. She grew up in Brigham City and graduated from Brigham High School where she participated actively in band and drama. She was in a dance band that performed all over northern Utah. She then went to Brigham Young University, where she majored in music. It was there that she met her eternal sweetheart Merrill Raymond Pack the son of Mercy Ethelin (Lewis) and William Raymond Pack of Kamas, Utah. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 10, 1949. They lived in New Brunswick, New Jersey; Las Cruces, New Mexico; Orem, Utah; and Pullman, Washington before returning to Orem.
Donna and Merrill were blessed with six children: Ramona (Lane) Kissell, Marilyn Bauder, Robert (Anona) Pack, Rebecca (Delbert) Mack, Valerie (Curtis) Swenson, and Bradley (Lura) Pack.
Donna’s first love was her family. Her many talents—which she shared freely—included sewing, molding and painting ceramics, music (especially playing the saxophone and accordion), and collecting stories and jokes. But she was most well-known for her amazing flower garden and flower arrangements and bouquets, which she joyously and lovingly shared. Her favorite flower was “whichever one is blooming right now,” and in her garden at least 20 varieties were always blooming!
Donna was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved the Lord and served in all the auxiliaries. Perhaps her most interesting assignment was when she and Merrill served in the Ghana Accra Mission in 1987. But her most loved assignment was teaching her Mia Maids.
Donna is survived by her six children, 23 grandchildren, and 41 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Merrill, her parents, her brothers Royes Jr. and Boyd Allen, her great-grandson Zander, and her son-in-law Lane.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Primary Children’s Hospital.

It was a great honor and joy to live across the street from Donna in Orem over 11 years ago. I well remember our visits in her yard as she taught me about her flowers and also about an abundant life. She was always an example of love and Christlike service. She even gave me starts from her plants and made sure I knew how to care for them when we moved to Cache Valley. Oh Donna you were such a great blessing in our lives. We are so happy you are with Merrill and other family now, working in “Heavenly Gardens”. We send our love and sympathies to all in the Pack family.

Donna was always a joy to be around. She was always happy and cheerful. I loved seeing the beautiful flowers that she furnished to the ward chapel almost every week during the summer and fall.

Dear Pack Family,This is Linda Rhead Staley, your cousin. I have great memories of both your Mom and Dad. It was always such a joyful home. There was a lot of laughing and joking. We weren't there often but I do remember a Thanksgiving we spent together. Your mom made cheese stuffed celery and it was gone long before dinner because I couldn't keep my hands off. Your mom just laughed about it. My mom wasn't so forgiving. Reunions were great fun because of the kazoo concert your family provided. Very creative and fun-loving family and you are loved.

From the Kissell family with loving memories of good times created and shared together.
Thanks for sharing this Cindy, Mom loved your Mom and mentioned her meals and kindnesses several tmes in her history and said this about your Mom, her whole history was in all caps so she wasn't shouting. "1968 JAN. 13 THE MOST WONDERFUL NEWS...CAROL LEWIS, OUR DEAR FRIEND AND NEIGHBOR IN OREM WAS BAPTIZED INTO THE CHURCH!! SHE CALLED TO LET US KNOW. I DON'T KNOW WHEN WE HAVE ALL BEEN SO THRILLED AND HAPPY. "

Donna Pack was a gem in my life. I remember her teaching me how to play songs on the piano. She led us in a puppet show at Christmas, and I got to be the angel. She taught me baptism lessons each week when I was nine, which I immediately went home and taught my mom. She was a true friend to my mom, and her love and fellowship and example were instrumental in my mom’s testimony. I remember going home from school once in sixth grade in tears because of something my teacher said. My mom told Donna Pack. A few hours later I received a letter from Sister Pack, telling me about Albert Einstein, never giving up, believing in yourself. That letter really impacted my life. Ramona Pack was a dear friend and example, just like her mom. Her dad was a botanist, and we knew which plants you could eat from the yard. Donnas family had a great impact on me and my family. I treasure the memories and will always admire this wonderful woman. I know my mom is probably greeting her dear friend with open arms and tears of joy.

Dear Mom, Love you so much and will miss seeing your smile and talking to you a ton! Here is one of my favorite photos of you and Dad after you met. Love how he's grabbing you and holding you tight and so glad he can do that now and you can see all your loved ones who have passed! Love you, Bradley
