Emily Gene Campbell Petersen, 91, of Ammon, Idaho, passed away November 17, 2024, at her home. She was under the care of her loving family and Alliance Home Health and Hospice.
Emily Gene Campbell Petersen was born September 2, 1933, in the Taylor, Idaho area, to David Odell Campbell and Leah Harker Campbell. She was the second child of 12 children, with 4 sisters and 7 brothers.
She was raised in a farming community, so there was always work to be done. She was her mother's extra helper with so many younger siblings. She loved being around extended family and getting together.
On October 15, 1952, she married Royes John Petersen Jr. in the Idaho Falls Temple and was a life long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She has served in every organization and love being involved with everything from Primary to Relief Society, roadshows, Singing Mothers, teaching institute and Gospel Doctrine teacher, where her knowledge and love for the scriptures really had grown.
She and Royes (Pete) made their home in Las Vegas, Nevada, and raised 6 children. They also served in the Las Vegas Temple for several years. They were both generous with their time and talents. She loved quilting and has made and given 100's of quilts for new babies in the ward and for family and friends.
Gene is survived by her sons, Jon Petersen, Ralph (Joni) Petersen of Henderson, NV, and Paul (Barb) Petersen of Idaho Falls, ID; her daughters, Diane (Dave) McDonald of Mesa AZ, Susan (Ashley-deceased) Anderson, and Cathy (Jay) Crum, both of Henderson, NV; her sisters, Bonnie (Dale) Romrell of Corvalis, OR, and Rose (Doug) Hanson of Blackfoot, ID; her brothers, Lester (Linda) Campbell of Orem, UT, and Bruce Campbell of Pocatello, ID; and 25 grandchildren, 66 1/2 great grandchildren, and 13 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Royes John Petersen Jr.; her parents, Odell and Leah Harker Campbell; her brothers, Wendell, David, Perry, Van and Robert Campbell; and her twin sisters, Doris and Dorothy Campbell.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the Ammon 26th
Ward, 1100 South Tiebreaker, Ammon, Idaho. The family will visit with friends from 9-10 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Iona Cemetery.
