Obituary - Elva Leone Bingham Petersen

Devoted wife, loving and encouraging mother and grandmother, faithful servant of Heavenly Father, Elva Leone Bingham Petersen passed peacefully from this life on April 21, 2000.

Mother was born November 1, 1903, in Salt Lake City, Utah to John Moss and Ella Butler Bingham. On August 29, 1923, when she was 19 years of age, she married Royes John Petersen. They raised a family of seven children, three sons and four daughters.Elva loved music, the arts, literature, her family and her religion.

She held numerous positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in the Relief Society, Primary and Mutual organizations.

She was a full partner with her husband in their business, constructing homes in Brigham City, Tremonton, Ogden, Murray and Las Vegas, Nevada.

Elva handled the books and decorating while Royes did the actual building.

Mother was preceded in death by Dad; one son, Boyd Alan; her mother and father; sisters, Blanche Sheffield, Barbara Gudmundson, and Carma Anderson; brothers Cyril, Vernon, Grant, and their wives Nola and Fern.

She is survived by her sister, Doris Fotheringham. She is also survived by her children, Gae Cowley, Donna Pack (Merrill) Colleen Nuttall, Pat Prather (John), Royes Jr. (Gene), and Steven (Oneta).

Mother's family of children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren number 167.

The family wants to express our admiration and appreciation to Mother's primary care giver and our angel, her granddaughter, Linda Brooks.

Linda's undying devotion to Mother was exemplary always. We also thank Linda's children and Utah County Hospice for their kind support.

Friends and family will gather for the viewing at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2000 in the Canyon View 7th Ward, 1090 N. 400 E., Orem, UT under the direction of the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. in the Brigham City Cemetery.

We will miss you, Mother.

Obituary - Royes John Petersen

Royes John Petersen, age 83, of Las Vegas, Nevada, died October 17, 1982, in Orem, Utah.

He was born July 11, 1899, in Brigham City, Utah, a son of Lorenzo and Louisa Johnson Petersen.

He married Elva Bingham August 29, 1923, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

He graduated from Boxelder High School, and attended Utah State University. He was a member of the LDS Church; had served as a high priest. He had been a scout master, and had served in scouting for 18 years. He was a member of the Utah State Firemen’s Association, and a former member of the Rotary Club in Brigham City. He had been a general contractor and subdivider in Brigham City, Ogden, and Las Vegas, Nevada.

Survivors: Wife, Las Vegas: Two sons, four daughters Royes J. Petersen, Jr. and Stephen B. Petersen, both Las Vegas. Nevada; Gae P. Cowley, Murray; Mrs. Merrill (Donna) Pack, Pullman, Washington, Mrs. Colleen Nuttall, Orem; Mrs. Gary (Patricia) Jackson, Centerville; 29 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; three brothers. five sisters: Deverell Petersen, Vern Petersen, both Brigham City; Howard V Petersen, Elverta Jacobsen, and Mrs. Edward (Mary) Watson, all Salt Lake City: Mrs. Orion (Jennie) Eskelson, and Mrs. Howard (Burnis) Jorgensen, both Brigham City. Dr. Russell (Verna) Hirst, Ogden.

Funeral services will be Thursday, 11 a.m.. at the Olsen Funeral Horne, 205 So. first East Brigham City. Friends may call Wednesday. 6 to 8 p.m.. and Thursday, 9:30 to 10:45 a.m.

Interment, Brigham City Cemetery.
